Meet Sarah Chitongo – A Voice for Equitable Maternity Care

Sarah Chitongo

Sarah Chitongo is an award-winning Midwife, Midwifery Educator, and Advocate for equitable maternity care, with over 20 years of experience supporting women through pregnancy, birth, and beyond. Born in Zimbabwe, she is deeply committed to transforming maternity care for Black and Brown women through culturally sensitive, evidence-based practice.

Now based in the UK, Sarah has become one of the most influential voices in midwifery education. Her groundbreaking research on maternal outcomes for Black and Brown women has been published widely and has influenced local and national healthcare policy. Through innovative teaching and advocacy, she equips future midwives with the tools to deliver compassionate, anti-racist, and culturally competent care.
